Meet Patricia - Master's Programme Social Work and Human Rights

I want to make an impact

On Patricia Mbabazi’s wish list two years ago: A master’s degree with social work and social theory. Deeper knowledge about human rights. Field experience. Preferably with an international flavor.
The international Master’s Programme in Social Work and Human Rights proved to be the right match for Patricia from Uganda.

- It’s been life changing because the skills I have gained here will open up new opportunities for me.

Besides new perspectives and learning how to apply theoretical knowledge to social work practice, Patricia has also found new friends and an international network that she will benefit from in the years to come.

- We’ve had many interesting discussions in the classroom, during lectures and seminars. The peer system is good and there have been lots of fun activities and parties organized by the student union as well, says Patricia.

The field placement at an elderly care unit in Gothenburg broadened her work experience and has inspired Patricia to return home and make an impact. But first, she is heading for Stockholm and the American embassy where she has been offered a temporary position.

- What I’ve learned in the human rights course as well as the course on migration will be very relevant to this job.
