Promoting sexual health in Spain: seminar with guest researcher Cristina Giménez García

Lokal: D412

About the seminar:

Sexuality represents one important dimension for our wellbeing and quality of life. Some traditions, such as Hispanic culture, maintain barriers to experiment it healthily. In this context, the Unit of Research on Sexuality and HIV-AIDS (Universitat Jaume I & Universitat de València, Spain) focus on analysing psychological and social correlates of sexual health and developing effective interventions to promote it. In particular, our main interests are related to:
(1) the effect of internet on sexuality, our results point a recreational use of cybersex among Spanish adolescent and young people although some of them show a riskier profile connected to cybersex addiction and Sexual Transmission Infections
(2) sexual diversity and discrimination, even today, our studies confirm that 80% of young people have suffered criticism and scorn due to their sexual orientation and
(3) sexual health, Spain reveals higher rates in HIV new infections than European mean and there are still pending issues such as promoting safe sex and HIV test, as well as preventing HIV stigma.
