About Tua Hassling

Background

I am a social worker, employed at a child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinic. I am a certified psychoterapist with a spezialisation in Attachement-Based Family Therapy (ABFT). Since 2015, I have a PhD position at the department of social work through the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Research
My dissertation project is about domestic violence and child abuse and the need of child protection. In order to be able to recover from traumatic experiences, children may need immediate protection through the social services but they also need protection from continued violence and/or other factors that contribute to an unstable environment. Treatment at a child and adolescent psychiatric clinic is necessary for some of the children who have experienced domestic violence and child abuse, and the issue of protection and a safe home environment becomes important also in health care. In my dissertation project, I want to examine how the therapists at child and adolescent psychiatric clinics think about and deal with the issues of family violence and child abuse and the need of child protection. I also want to find out what it is like for the children and parents who have experienced family violence to be acknowledged in his matter and how they experienced the way they have been treated.
