About Anna Ryan Bengtsson

Background
Pol. Master. Public Administration, School of Public Administration, Gothenburg University.
I am currently a PhD student at the Department of social work.

Previously I have worked as a research assistant in three different research projects in the Department of social work 2011-2013. I also have prior experience from working as a desk officer with internationalization and mobilization within adult education, in the public authority Internationella Programkontoret (now named Universitets- och högskolerådet UHR).

Dissertation project
My dissertation is about collective mobilization and practices of resistance among professional and occupational groups working in the welfare sector in Sweden. Research in different contexts, institutionally as well as geographically, has shown how changes in welfare policies under a neoliberal ideology, and the entry of New Public Management (NPM) in the public sector, have changed both working conditions and work content. Due to these changes, practices and processes of resistance among professional and occupational groups within these organizations have begun to draw scholarly interest.

This study aims to explore collective mobilization and practices of resistance undertaken by people working within welfare services in contemporary Sweden. With this study I want to portray the different ways that occupational and professional groups mobilize collectively in order to renegotiate both working conditions and work content. Through a qualitative case-study focusing on two different cases of collective mobilization among midwives and social workers I also want to deepen our knowledge on how collective mobilization and practices of resistance can be pursued from within neoliberal regimes.
